Zimbali Country Club reopens championship golf course to the public
While the club is now accessible to golfers beyond the estate, several exclusive sessions remain reserved for members.
Zimbali Country Club has reopened its championship golf course to the public, ending five years of resident-only access.
Opened in 1998, the Tom Weiskopf-designed course has long been regarded as one of South Africa’s top golfing destinations. Ranked 14th nationally, the eco-conscious layout is also home to the annual SuperSport Shootout and has built a strong reputation among both amateur and professional players.
The shift back to public access follows a surge in demand from non-members, according to ZCC general manager Blanche Lamprecht.
“There was a massive appetite for people wanting to play at Zimbali Country Club,” said Lamprecht.
“We received so many enquiries from golfers wanting to play the course that we ran a trial midway through last year. It was a success, so we changed our policy at the beginning of the year.”
The decision also coincides with the recent opening of the neighbouring Zimbali Lakes 18-hole golf course, which has added to the region’s growing golfing profile.
The 2025 soft trial period demonstrated the operational viability of reopening bookings to outside visitors, prompting management to make the change permanent. While the club is now accessible to golfers beyond the estate, several exclusive sessions remain reserved for members, specifically Wednesday mornings from 10am, all day Friday, and Saturday mornings.
Bookings can be made up to 28 days in advance, although golfers may also secure a tee time by calling on the day. If space permits, they are welcome to play.
Lamprecht said the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It has been great for the club and is going well. People are very pleased since we changed our policy,” he said.
Non-residents may also enjoy meals at the clubhouse by arranging a booking with the food and beverage manager, who will provide an access code to the estate.
