Final week of Phelophepa Healthcare Train in KwaDukuza

The free travelling clinic will remain at the KwaDukuza railway station until Friday, February 27.

The Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare Train is halfway through its stay in KwaDukuza and has so far helped thousands of residents access free and affordable treatments.

Since arriving on February 16, Phelophepa staff have offered a wide range of services including:

• Optometry eye tests and prescription glasses
• Counselling sessions with certified psychologists
• Breast, prostate and cervical cancer screenings
• Dental care
• Diabetes screenings
• Pharmacy services

The treatments work on a first-come, first-serve basis and daily tickets are limited. The demand has been such that residents have reportedly been sleeping at the station overnight to ensure access.

Beyond the station-based services, outreach teams have visited schools, old-age homes and facilities for people living with disabilities.

The Phelophepa Train regularly moves around the country and is unlikely to be back in KwaDukuza for a few years.
