Bright futures in focus for Orphan Fund beneficiaries
Six children from the Nkobongo Resource Centre enjoyed sponsored eye tests and support from Neovision Ballito.
Six children from the Nkobongo Resource Centre in Shakaskraal enjoyed the chance to improve their sight for the first time on Monday morning.
In conjunction with The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund, the group were given free comprehensive eye tests by Neovision Ballito, before tucking into a sponsored lunch at Key Largo Spur.
Neovision Ballito franchise partner and optometrist Kereshni Poongavanum-Singh said two of the children did not require vision aids, two were successfully corrected with glasses, and two were referred to an ophthalmologist for further assessment.
For matric pupil Awande Zungu, the opportunity was life-changing.

Aware of his eyesight problems from a young age, he never told his parents, fearing the added financial strain. Instead, he sat at the front of his class, squinting to read the chalkboard. Awande and his friend Sabelo Nyamwela encouraged one another to approach Nkobongo Resource Centre co-ordinator Zamo Mngadi when they heard about the free tests.
Orphan Fund co-ordinator Charmaine Premlal thanked both sponsors for creating a memorable afternoon.
“Thank you to Neovision for generously providing free eye tests and glasses. Your kindness makes a meaningful difference in the lives of the children, helping them see the world more clearly and confidently,” said Premlal.
“To Key Largo Spur, your generosity brought big smiles and made the day even more special for them. We truly appreciate your support and compassion in making a positive impact.”
