Blaze destroys Etete PR councillor Thulile Mkhize’s home

Mkhize's family was not home and there were no injuries, but she lost most of her possessions.

An Etete PR councillor’s home was destroyed in a fire on Saturday, turning her life upside down overnight.

African Transformation Movement PR councillor Thulile Mkhize said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Mkhize, who also serves as KwaDukuza MPAC chairperson, said no one was injured as her children were at school and their father was away at the time.

“Residents tried to put out the fire, but the flames were too intense. It took four fire trucks to extinguish it,” she said.

Mkhize said all her furniture and belongings were destroyed in the blaze.

“I am heartbroken and do not know where to start in rebuilding,” she said.

She added that rebuilding the house is beyond her financial means and has appealed for community assistance.
