Crusaders charity ride supports Summerhill House in Etete

The Durban bikers brought plenty of smiles alongside the food handovers.

Engines revved for a cause as bikers rode from Durban to bring food and smiles to children in Etete on Sunday.

The Crusaders MC Hardcore charter delivered R6 000 worth of food and household supplies to Summerhill House. Riders travelled from their base at Woodlands Sports Club in Montclair for the charity visit – revealing that beneath the leather and tough personas, the bikers are surprisingly soft at heart.

Summerhill House, a registered non-profit, cares for vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned children in a family-style village. Each child is placed in a home with a dedicated caregiver, creating a stable, nurturing environment.

Salt Rock resident and Crusaders Hardcore media manager Johan Jacobs said the club runs two charity drives a year. Although the chapter is not based locally, choosing Summerhill House was an easy decision, as Jacobs and his partner, Candice, have been involved in fundraising for the organisation.

“This was not just about a charity ride, it was about impact, unity and showing what we stand for as Crusaders,” said Jacobs.

“Seeing the kids light up was something you cannot put into words. Their smiles are something money can’t buy.”

Support came from clubs and businesses across KZN, including Mozambik Ballito, Ultra Liquors Umhlali and Megaforce Camperdown.

Summerhill House village manager Nunko Cele welcomed the contribution, saying it would help feed the children in their care.
