Top wine estate founder Doug Lund shares story with Salt Rock businessmen at quarterly breakfast

Lund took a risk leaving his dairy and sugarcane farming career to open Newstead Wine Estate in Plett.

More than 200 men gathered in Salt Rock last week for a morning of networking, inspiration and powerful lessons in business and faith.

The event took place at Wave Church’s Litchi Orchard campus last Friday as part of the quarterly Men in Business breakfast.

The Salt Rock venue has hosted the free networking breakfasts since 2022, creating a space where men at all stages of their professional journeys can connect, share ideas and build relationships in both business and life.

Each event includes breakfast and features either a keynote speaker or a panel discussion focused on practical, real-world topics.

At last week’s gathering, guests heard the inspiring story of Doug Lund, a former dairy and sugarcane farmer, who, together with his family, made the bold decision to relocate to Plettenberg Bay in 2006 during a severe drought. Starting from scratch, the family went on to establish Newstead Wine Estate, releasing its first vintage in 2012.

Since then, Newstead has earned multiple national and international awards and is now widely regarded as one of South Africa’s top-performing wine estates.

Wave Church elder Don Baney expressed his excitement at the strong turnout and the message shared on the day.

“The purpose of hearing from Lund was to inspire people to take a leap of faith, to go out and pursue their dreams and to have no regrets when we are old and grey.”
