New Big Easy restaurant set to open at Zimbali Lakes

The restaurant will open on Mother's Day next month.

A preview event at Zimbali Lakes Clubhouse gave guests a taste of the Big Easy Winebar & Grill ahead of its official opening.

The restaurant, part of golf legend Ernie Els’ investment portfolio, hosted more than 60 members of the media and Ballito’s social scene for an elegant afternoon of food, drinks and entertainment.

Live entertainment by René Tshiakanyi set the tone as guests mingled and sampled wines from 10 Stellenbosch estates.

Guests were welcomed with oysters and champagne, followed by a curated three-course lunch featuring fish and meat dishes, and a selection of classic international and South African desserts.

The event marked the third of four soft-opening functions as the clubhouse prepares to open to golfers on Wednesday, April 22, with the restaurant opening to the public on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10.

Set against the Ernie Els Signature Golf Course, launched last April, the clubhouse offers panoramic views, with six holes encircling the clubhouse.

Debbie Naidoo, Suvina Mahadaw, Esther Naidoo and Shayhara Ngubane.

Vice-president of operations Neil Cocker said the opening was long anticipated after golf operations ran from a temporary facility for over a year.

Sales, marketing and environmental officer Nienke Burger described the event as the start of a new chapter.

“So much has happened in such a short time and this is only the beginning,” she said.
