Missing Tongaat man found dead after suspected single car crash

The man was found about 60 metres from the car.

A 34-year-old man was found dead about 60 metres from his crashed car near King Shaka International Airport yesterday (June 12).

The family of the Sandfields, Tongaat resident had earlier reported him missing when he did not return home from work.

According to IPSS Search and Rescue Tongaat chairperson Riza Sadack, family members became concerned after his car’s tracking system showed it had remained stationary for an unusually long time.

Search and rescue teams responded to the link road between King Shaka International Airport and the Watson Highway, where they found the car about 100 metres off the roadway.

Sadack said the car appeared to have rolled several times before coming to a stop.

“The car was found with its front windscreen off and the driver’s cellphone was still inside,” said Sadack.

“We then expanded the search and found him about 60 metres away.”
