Partially decomposed body recovered at Westbrook beach

Rescue teams found the body with the help of a drone.

The body of a man believed to be in his late 30s was recovered at Casuarina Beach in Westbrook this morning (June 28).

Search and rescue teams had been notified of a body in the early hours of the morning, but could not immediately access it due to sea conditions.

“About two hours later, we received another call saying the body had been seen floating again,” said IPSS Search and Rescue Tongaat chairperson, Riza Sadack.

“With the use of a drone piloted by an IPSS Search and Rescue volunteer, the body was spotted just off Casuarina.”

The body, believed to be about a week old from the level of decomposition, was recovered and handed over to Tongaat Saps.

Sadack thanked police, lifeguards and private security teams who assisted.
