Here’s how much you’ll save on fuel from July 1

Fuel price hikes have hit South Africans hard this year, with petrol rising by R7.72 a litre and diesel by up to R10.16 since April.

The first significant fuel relief since the US-Iran conflict takes effect tomorrow (July 1), with decreases of between R1.96 and R3.59 per litre.

A ceasefire agreement recently reopened the Strait of Hormuz between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, immediately sending global oil prices lower. The rand also performed well against the US dollar in June, contributing to the price decrease.

As of July 1, Petrol 93 decreases by R2.01 per litre, Petrol 95 by R1.96 per litre, Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) by R3.14 per litre and Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) by R3.59 per litre.

These are the official figures, including the scrapping of the fuel levy, which was introduced to cushion the blow of price increases earlier this year.
