Meet Riya Singh: Educator, entrepreneur and pageant queen
While education remains her primary focus, Singh also found a platform in pageantry, using it to champion community upliftment and social causes.
Long before pageant titles and public recognition, Riya Singh was balancing studies, work and community projects while quietly building a career rooted in service.
Today, the 33-year-old devotes much of her time to education and youth development, but she says her commitment to helping others began at home.
Raised by former KwaDukuza councillor Madhun Singh and his wife Sonitha, she grew up watching her parents invest their time and energy in the community.
“They taught me the importance of service from a young age,” she said.
Inspired by those values, Singh pursued her studies before launching Riya’s Dance & Model Academy. She later established the Edu-Kids Daycare and Aftercare Centre, where she works closely with young children, including those with special needs.
While education remains her primary focus, Singh also found a platform in pageantry, using it to champion community upliftment and social causes.
She is involved with the Courageous South Africa Pageant, an initiative that aims to create opportunities for people who may not traditionally have access to the pageant industry, including senior citizens. Balancing multiple responsibilities has often required determination and discipline.
“There were times when I was studying, working, teaching and building projects all at once. It was challenging, but I remained focused on what I wanted to achieve,” she said.
For Singh, however, the accolades are secondary to the impact she hopes to make.
Success is not measured by titles or recognition. It is about creating opportunities and making a positive difference in people’s lives.”
