The Brettenwood Homeowners Association (BHOA) team rolled up their sleeves in honour of Mandela Day, spending time giving back to the community at Sizani School.

Working alongside the school’s dedicated volunteers, the team assisted in maintaining the established school garden, which is cared for throughout the year by committed community members. The group also helped tidy and refresh the surrounding grounds, contributing wherever assistance was needed.

Brettenwood marketing manager Samantha Subban said Mandela Day is a reminder that meaningful change comes through collective effort.

“Mandela Day is about more than dedicating 67 minutes of our time – it’s about creating a culture of compassion and service. We were honoured to support the incredible volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain Sizani School’s beautiful garden and contribute in a small way to the meaningful work they do every week,” she said.

Subban said the initiative reflects Brettenwood’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities beyond the estate.

“As an estate, we believe we have a responsibility to be good neighbours. Whether it’s through environmental initiatives, charitable fundraising or community outreach, we are always looking for opportunities to make a positive impact. It was a privilege to stand alongside the volunteers at Sizani School and honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy through service,” she said.

The Mandela Day initiative formed part of the BHOA’s annual programme of community outreach and reinforced the message that acts of kindness, collaboration and service can leave a lasting impact well beyond Mandela Day itself.
