The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is looking to strengthen its presence in KwaZulu-Natal ahead of the upcoming local government elections.

Party leader Dr Corné Mulder addressed about 200 supporters at Umhlali Country Club on Saturday, outlining the party’s election plans.

Mulder said the VF Plus wanted to attract support from different communities while remaining committed to its principles and policies.

“We are a very diverse society where we have all these differences,” he said, arguing that South Africa should recognise and embrace its diversity.

He urged supporters to avoid political conflict, particularly on social media, and focus instead on building support.

“My appeal to our own supporters: don’t get involved in conflict and fights with other political parties. It’s negative. It’s destructive,” he said.

On coalition governments, Mulder said parties needed to work together where no single party secured enough votes to govern.

“The best interest of the community comes first,” he said.

The meeting also focused on the party’s KwaZulu-Natal candidates. Supporters were told prospective candidates had undergone screening, examinations, interviews and record checks as part of the selection process.

The VF Plus plans to officially introduce its candidates at a special event next month.
