Ballito shoppers are getting their first proper look at the revamped Lifestyle SUPERSPAR as months of construction begin to give way to newly completed departments.

The store’s bakery, butchery and wine sections are now open, while new refrigeration and a rearranged grocery section have also been completed.

The work forms part of a major overhaul of the supermarket, which has remained open throughout construction.

Among the most noticeable changes is the new bakery, with an expanded range of artisanal breads, pastries and cakes. The butchery has larger preparation areas and a wider selection of matured steaks and prepared products, while the wine section has increased its focus on South African producers.

A new frozen prepared-meals section has also been introduced, alongside new fridges and freezers throughout the fresh-food areas.

Owners Bruce and Paul Rencken say completing this phase brings an end to much of the disruption customers have experienced during the project.

“We have climbed the mountain,” said Bruce.

“The biggest structural work is now behind us.”

But there is still plenty to come.

Work is continuing on the checkout area, hot and cold takeaway section, artisanal deli, sushi department, express tills, fresh produce section and a new coffee pod.

These will be introduced in stages from August 21 through to the end of October.

Bruce said the intention was to rethink how customers move through and use the store, rather than simply give it a cosmetic makeover.

“We are now on the home stretch,” he said.
