Crawford College North Coast’s surfing team cruised to victory at the 2013 Billabong SA Schools Surfing Championship competition, held recently at Dairy Beach, on Durban’s beachfront.
This is the culmination of three consecutive KZN Surfing Championship victories, which proves their dominance in this sport. Coach and teacher, Brant Collins was ecstatic with this remarkable achievement attained by his ‘A’ team. He attributed their success not only to their talent, which they possess in abundance, but also to their team-work, strategy and maintaining a clear, level head under extreme pressure.
The ‘A’ surf team consists of Luke McCracken, Wade Simkiss, Richard Cowan, Chad Minnaar and Kei Weyer. The girls’ team, consisting of Teal Hogg, Jade Mets, Olivia Brand, and Kelly Simkiss, came seventh after making the overall semi-finals. The boys’, consisting of Callum Carlson, Jordan van Zyl, Cameron Hunter, Ross Walker, Kevan van der Velde and Joshua Bemister, B team came tenth out of a field of 13.
