Crawford sportsmen net top awards

Young sportsmen and woman have been recognised for their passion.

Crawford College North Coast celebrated its sports awards evening on Friday, November 15. During the sporting year, pupils participated in 17 sporting codes within the college and seven beyond.
Thirty students achieved KZN regional colours and seven students achieved SA national colours. Chanté Jansen van Vuuren, the winner of the female sportsmanship award and a KZN hockey player, set the tone for the evening with her pertinent statement about sport not “building character so much as revealing it”.
Sports person of the Year, Phumzile Shandu revealed how sport channelled her energy and captivated her mind, leading to her multiple SA sports representations. Of particular note was the positive role her parents played in her sports development process. Her talents were identified, nurtured and extended. A proud moment was her selection for the prep school’s boys’ first hockey team when she was only in grade four.
Tribute was paid to the passionate coaches and sports coordinators who have managed the sports portfolio and its individual team performances. The coaches were complimented on their drive to push them beyond their limits and to lead the developing pupils towards excellence in competition.
