Grace will lead us home

Tears of joy and appreciation flowed at Ashton International College as the school officially opened its Grace Hall last Thursday morning.
What started as an idea to build an amphitheatre for the school nearly two years ago culminated in the beautiful multi-purpose hall which will host assemblies, school plays and concerts.
The hall includes basement parking and a staff room, a restaurant and sushi bar, sound control room, board room and LED screen on the stage. Backstage are two rooms for extra-curricular classes and two full-size change rooms.
The music department will have a new home upstairs with two classrooms and four rooms for practice.
At the first assembly in the new hall principal Joe Erasmus said the day would forever be remembered as Ashton’s “day of Grace”.
“The foundations are so strong we could build another five floors, or place 100 elephants on the roof and it will support them. It is heart warming to stand here and see this vision come to life. Thank you children, without you this is just a building,”
Junior college head Flick Holmes extended the school’s appreciation to Ashton International College CEO André Buys.
“We started thinking of names around a year ago and I felt the building should somehow honour the Buys family. Each letter in Grace symbolises a member of the Buys family members and our school’s name.”
The cherry on top of the day’s proceedings was Erasmus’ announcement that the school’s enrolment officially hit the 1000 mark.
