Popular Sharkie thrills Umhlali prep pupils

The Sharks' mascot, Sharkie, is a favourite with everyone, especially the children.

If you closed your eyes it would have been easy to imagine Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan climbing out their tour bus at Umhlali Preparatory last Friday morning.

Organised chaos, like when the popular band, One Direction makes an appearance, erupted when everybody’s favourite mascot, Sharkie, set foot on the school’s sports field to meet and greet a sea of screaming boys and girls.

Sharkie must have worn ear plugs on Friday or he would have gone deaf amid the rhythmic chanting and high pitch screams emitted by the excited school children.

Sharkie was brought to the school by Bruce Dragt from the Garvz Sports Academy to celebrate and get the children excited about a new sporting year of rugby, cricket and hockey at the academy.

The academy offers boys and girls between the ages of two and nine years old top-notch foundation coaching in a non contact environment every Friday afternoon at Umhlali Preparatory.
