A whirl of moving colour and dance
This year's dances ranged from contemporary and hip-hop to classical Indian and silks by Diana Hartley and by grade 4 pupil, Maddison Steyn.
Dancecapade, the annual highlight at Crawford North Coast Preparatory was held again this year with 278 children performing on stage at the Isizulu Theatre to a sold out show for all three nights.
The show thrilled audiences with its usual whirl of glitz and colour, as dancers from grade one to seven took to the floor.
The host was Ravi R whose slick patter put everyone at ease.
Dance director Evashnee Pillay is a professional dancer who regularly appears in Kickstart shows and in international Bollywood productions.
This year’s dances ranged from contemporary and hip-hop to classical Indian and silks by Diana Hartley and by grade 4 pupil Maddison Steyn.
Especially memorable moments from Pillay’s In-Sync Academy include an Indian Classical dance with the girls in long red dresses and a stunningly choreographed contemporary number with the dancers in flowing white (a tribute to showbiz personality, the late Dean Bennewith, who died of cancer earlier this year).
Notable among the school dances were grade 6’s Anthem and the upbeat grade 7 Bieber number which featured the Prep’s Kwaito king Bantu Banti as well as an incredible rhythmic gymnastics display by Ruby Dixon and grade five’s “Walking on Sunshine” which placed Nidah Muller and her wheelchair in a starring role.
