The grade 0 children at Crawford Pre-Primary North Coast are learning about the forces of nature. In order to understand the elements at work, they first need to understand the basic concept of what a ‘push’ and ‘pull’ force is.
They were lucky enough to visit one of the Crawford College science labs, to enjoy a fun and interactive exploration of these basic scientific concepts, starting with demonstrations with trolleys and finding out about friction and how weight can increase or decrease the speed of a moving object.
Other experiments included fun with balloons, elastic bands, magnets and brute strength in trying to push down the walls of the science lab. The basis of gravity was also discussed.
The exploration concluded outside in the garden where the children worked with a partner to explore push and pull forces through simple games.
The grade 0 children thoroughly enjoyed this valuable learning experience that helped to unlock their thinking and pique their interest in science.
