There was cause for celebration after a difficult year when Umhlali Preparatory School held their final prizegiving on December 9.
The event was held on the Paul Prokopiak Field which allowed pupils, parents and staff to celebrate the achievements safely with the requisite social distance.
The attendees were treated to a virtual perfomance from the Boys’ and Girls’ choirs, as well as a live highly energetic gumboot dance show.
Hannah Taylor was named Dux for 2020, with Lola Wang taking the Proxime Accessit award. Ndabenhle Mkhize won All Soul’s Anglican Church Award for Honourable Service and The Round Table Award for School Spirit and Loyalty.
He also formed a vital part of the gumboot dance and gave a valedictory speech that left the crowd speechless.
The Michel and Marie Robert Award and Cyril De Charmoy Remembrance Trophy for good fellowship went to Tyler Casey and Oliver Hind. Matthew Carey received The Astra Russell Trophy for encapsulating the ethos of the school and is well-deserving of the award.
The Holmes Family Trophy was awarded to Errin Mackridge and the leadership development award went to Caleb Gould.
Finally, Guy Henwood-Fox won the Johnson Family Trophy for all round achievement and contribution to the school.
