Final year students keeping their cool

The experience forms one of the practical components of their degree and the students will spend the rest of this week learning from Robcool director, Weir Pillay.

Five students have been placed at Robcool in Umhlali as part of their final year of mechanical engineering at Durban University of Technology (DUT).

The experience forms one of the practical components of their degree and the students will spend the rest of this week learning from Robcool director, Weir Pillay.

Pillay, a former lecturer in the mechanical engineering faculty of DUT also graduated from the college in 1975.

Robcool director, Weir Pillay lecturing the students present for the work experience. Pillay worked as a lecturer for Durban University of Technology for 27 years and is happy to be back in the role.

“This is the next generation of leaders in our country so it is very important to develop their skills properly,” he said.

The students will have a hands-on week, learning the intricacies of refrigeration and airconditioning, both important skills in these hot summer months.

“As small businesses we want to contribute to the community and giving back to students this way is a good place to start.”
