Curro celebrates name change, new mascot and state-of-the-art astro turf

Quoting Nelson Mandela, Thomas said: "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire and unite people."

The name Curro Mount Richmore is no more.

This after the school opted to change its name to Curro Salt Rock, a move the school believes is more in line with promoting it locally.

The school officially celebrated the name change last Friday, with executive head Bryn Thomas saying it was time for the school to show off its true colours.

“To change a name means taking a big risk, but with risk comes reward,” he said.

Curro Salt Rock’s mascot, Rocky, really got the crowd of pupils going at the new
astro turf.

The school’s brand new astro turf was also celebrated at the same time, followed by a lively performance and reveal of the school’s mascot, Rocky.

The new astro turf will allow Curro Salt Rock to expand its hockey offering.

A plaque was unveiled following a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The same scissors used to launch the school in 2014 were used for the occasion, with Grade 4 pupil Caleb Thomas doing the honours.
