Ashton College expansion project gains momentum

The entire building will be cabled for fibre connectivity and not be susceptible to power outages as it has a stable supply on site.

The structural progress on Ashton International College Ballito’s multi-level building has progressed according to plan.

The new addition is to include more classrooms for both the Ashlings (Gr 0000 – R/Age 2 – 6yrs) and primary and high school pupils.

Occupational therapy rooms, offices, a heated learn-to-swim sky pool and additional ground for the Ashlings play area are also included in the plans.

The heated pool will have a BaduJet system which is an extremely powerful resistance swimming system and will be heated all year round.

Ashton owner, Andre Buys, said the classrooms have been designed with light and modernity in mind.

Each class will have its own ultra-modern ablution facilities and kitchen.

The entire building will be cabled for fibre connectivity and not be susceptible to power outages as it has a stable supply on site.

Two state-of-the-art water features will incorporate white noise into the learning environment.

There will be multiple floating concrete cantilevers which will give cover as well as sun protection in key areas around the building and the covered open-air amphitheater.

The facility is designed to be wheelchair friendly.

There will also be a sensory wall for the Ashlings to explore new ideas as well.

Ashlings benefit from the Early Learning Centre where a stimulating and creative environment is provided in which Ashlings can learn and play.

The Ashlings specially designed curriculum does not only include Academics but also includes weekly Drumming, Music, Computer Skills, Robotics and Coding.

All of these lessons are included within the monthly school fees.

Meet the principals

Ashton Ashlings

Your little ones could not be in any better care than that of Germare Buys, head of the Ashlings at Ashton International College Ballito.

“Our college quite simply believes in play and in embracing childhood! Learning occurs throughout each classroom and on the playground in a childled manner, with daily activities focusing on play-based, hands-on learning,” Mrs Buys said.

This is scaffolded by specialist sessions, which are included in the school fees, with music, drumming, ball skills, robotics and seasonal swimming lessons, as well as age-appropriate computer literacy skills for the Grade 00 children.

The possibilities for learning are endless if they are guided by a child.
Capturing the essence and individuality of each child and allowing this to flourish is something on which Ashlings’ qualified teachers pride themselves.

Ashton Junior College

Ashton International College Ballito’s Grades 1 through to 7 pupils are in the firm hands of junior college head Nikki Hamann, who believes academic excellence starts the moment a pupil begins their learning journey in Grade 1.

“Our rich and varied curriculum prepares pupils for an ever-changing world,” said Ms Hamman, noting the use of tried and tested methods in education, which are improved upon with cutting edge approaches to education.

“We are blessed with an exceptional team of teachers and coaches who are invested in our pupils. We also advocate kindness and Christian values, firmly believing that respect, tolerance and acceptance emanate from it,” she said.

Based on this foundation, Hamann seeks to empower students to lead a life of significance.

Ashton Senior College

Neil Askham spent many years honing his craft in education until joining the Ashton International College group in 2017.

Today, Mr Askham serves as head of the senior college at Ashton International College Ballito.

He brings with him all of his energy, expertise and experience in service of the coastal community’s educational needs.

Boasting a firm reputation both on the sport field and in the classroom, one of Mr Askham’s notable achievements include the establishment of an education centre based in Benoni dedicated to mathematics, science and accounting.

The facility has served hundreds of students from more than 20 different schools around Benoni for the past 13 years.

Described as a firm, but fair teacher, Mr Askham is known for his deep love for young people who he has spent the best of 30 years teaching and guiding.
