Open day at McKenna Academies in Umhlali

Students obtain a world-class, wholistic instruction in high-performance golf and revolutionary IEB school education.

The McKenna Academies IEB Education Learning Lab and Golf Performance Academy is holding an open day at the Umhlali Country Club on November 5, which will include two information sessions for prospective students and their parents.

The event starts at 9am, with the information sessions scheduled for 10am and 12 noon.

At McKenna, students obtain a world-class, wholistic instruction in high-performance golf and revolutionary IEB school education.

The academy’s team of professionals, in each of their respective fields, collaborate to give each student specific, individualised attention to develop them into reaching their full potential educationally as well as on the golf course.

Based at Umhlali Country Club, the school grades start from Grade 7 to matric, and to ensure its academic programme meets the highest standards, McKenna has partnered with Evolve, an online ADvTech school and Africa’s largest private education provider.

The academy is situated in the scenic surroundings of the Umhlali Country Club.

“A revolutionary learning lab for modern online education, Evolve is designed to take each child on a journey of personal mastery, using trend-setting curriculum mapping systems developed by MIT, where they progress at their own deliberate or accelerated pace,” says founder and principal Colin Northmore.

“We are committed to guiding pupils through an educational adventure of self-discovery and subject mastery, helping them to quickly excel in areas of interest and strength, and progress steadily in areas where they need more time and focused attention to succeed. “

Golf Performance Academy

he performance academy is of a world class standard and is headed up by Class AAA PGA professional Emile Steinmann.

The coaching team has developed the high-performance golf programme by using the knowledge they have gained through many years of golf coaching experience and from various coaching certifications, namely, but not limited to the Professional Golfers Association of South Africa (PGA), Titleist Performance Institute (TPI), US Kids Golf, Positive Coaching Alliance, Gravity Fit, K-Vest and Boditrack.

Aided by specialists for each department of the game and by making use of the necessary teaching technology, the students are taught the technical, tactical, psychological and physical elements required for high performance golf while being carefully guided through the various stages of long-term development.

By doing this, McKenna Performance Academies hope to achieve the goal of helping each individual to become the best golfer and person they can be.

The flexibility of schedules will allow students to partake in daily golf training, psychology sessions – both individually and in a group format – and regular strength and fitness training. The flexibility and partnership with Evolve allows students to compete in golf tours across the country without falling behind in their schooling education.
