Reddam House Ballito’s first matric class excels

The group achieved a 100% Bachelor's degree pass, with Gia Naicker the top performing pupil with eight distinctions.

The 16 pupils who made up Reddam House Ballito’s first matriculating class have set a high bar to follow, achieving a 100% Bachelor’s degree pass rate.

Gia Naicker was the top performing pupil, grabbing eight distinctions, followed by Karina Krishnaswamy, with Luca Desvaux de Marigny and Courtney Smith sharing third place.

It has been a set of results four years in the making for the school, whose college opened in 2019 with the matriculating class starting in Grade 9.

“We are so proud of this group who have been trailblazers in every year they have completed.

“Despite joining a new school and having to deal with two years of Covid-19 restrictions, they have consistently adapted at every step,” said Reddam House Ballito head of senior prep and college, Catherine Raw.

Three of the top four performing students – Karina Krishnaswamy, Luca Desvaux de Marigny and Gia Naicker. Absent: Courtney Smith.

“We had to be careful that they did not become burnt out with the added pressure placed on them, but they pulled together as a group of pupils, teachers and parents to deliver fantastic results,” she said.

It was a proud moment for Naicker, who plans to study mechatronics engineering at Stellenbosch University.

“I can’t even begin to describe how it feels! We built a family out of this class and it is great to see how well everyone did,” she said.

She credits working through past exam papers as the key to her success, with her best results coming in Afrikaans, information technology and further studies mathematics (previously called AP mathematics).

The Naicker family – Raja, Gia, Kedar and Shamshaad – were thrilled with Gia’s results.

“I did better in further studies than in my normal mathematics. I’m not really sure how that happened! Thank you to everyone at the school for their support,” she said.

The class average was 72.43%, good for third best countrywide within the Inspired Education Group under which Reddam falls.

The aforementioned Naicker, De Marigny and Smith as well as Evandre Venter, all finished in the top 1% in the IEB curriculum across South Africa for one subject.

“I am delighted with the growth of the school. We have 28 in this year’s matric group, with numbers growing every year. It’s a very exciting process for us,” said Raw.
