Heavy medal acts by Umhlali Prep and Ashton dancers

The competition included various categories such as dancing, variety, singing, instrumental, acting, and modelling.

Two North Coast schoolgirls, Olivia Botha and Hanna van den Barselaar-Smith, were recently selected to represent South Africa at next year’s World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles.

This came after they displayed extraordinary skills at the South African Championships of Performing Arts in Rustenburg from September 29 to October 8.

Hailing from Umhlali Preparatory School and Ashton International College respectively, Olivia and Hanna finished the championships with a rich medal haul

The competition included various categories such as dancing, variety, singing, instrumental, acting, and modelling.

An exceptional achievement was Hanna winning the overall trophy for the highest scoring points received in dance for girls aged 5-12, outperforming 400 other contenders.

She also earned silver medals in both the aerial open and aerial silks categories in the 8-10 age group, with another four medals in the dancing – silver for ballet and gold for contemporary, jazz, and lyrical.

Olivia, with her proficiency in aerial silks, secured a silver medal for hammock in the 11-12 age group and a bronze for aerial in the open category.
