Ashton International College Ballito’s Cambridge matrics earn top marks

Newly appointed Head of Senior College, Belinda Boucher, heaped praise on the graduating class.

Ashton International College Ballito’s most recent graduates have delivered an excellent first batch of matric results.

Pupils who wrote the 2023 Cambridge International Examinations received their results on January 10, while those who wrote the IEB curriculum still anxiously await release on Thursday (January 18).

The Cambridge matrics are split into two separate groups, with most writing A Levels and a few writing AS Levels.

Kyle Neethling was the top overall A Level pupil with an aggregate of 90.6%.

He claimed 12 distinctions, three of which (accounting, physics and mathematics) were A* grades of over 90%.

Kyle has been accepted to the University of Amsterdam to study actuarial science.

Yadheya Govender finished second with an aggregate of 89.3% and 10 distinctions, one of which was an A* for accounting.

She plans to study actuarial science at the University of Pretoria.

Muhammad Khan rounded out the A Level top three with eight distinctions and an 87.1% aggregate.

He will study computer science at the University of Cape Town.

The top three AS Level places were earned by Nabila Sayed (82%, five distinctions), Mihle Bantubani (75.3%, three distinctions) and Yasmeen Moolla (74.8%, three distinctions).

Nabila will join Muhammad at the University of Cape Town to study business science, while Mihle will meet up with Yadeya at the University of Pretoria to study biochemistry.

Every subject written in 2023 yielded at least one distinction, with an average of 4.6 distinctions per candidate.

Special mention goes to Ellen Paul, April Drew, Caraline Hill and Tanja Thomas who all earned an impressive seven distinctions in their A/AS Level examinations.

The A Level subject averages were: accounting (89%), business studies (77%), computer science (79%), English (79%), geography (90.3%), and music (82%).

For AS Levels, the subject averages were: Afrikaans (91%), English (81%), French (87%), geography (80%), history (81%), and physics (75%).

“Year on year the students never cease to amaze us. It’s not a surprise with how much work they put in, but is always incredibly satisfying to see the reward,” she said.

“The teaching staff are all unbelievably committed and invested in preparing their students for the strenuous international examinations.

“Congratulations to this class of matrics, you have worked so diligently and absolutely deserve these results.”
