Darnall Primary School is committed to excellence

Since 1916, Darnall Primary School has been a beacon of educational excellence, offering a wholesome education for children from Grade R to 7.

From humble beginnings in 1916, Darnall Primary School has grown into an educational institution of excellence.

The school offers a wholesome education for children from Grade R to 7.

Through sport, Darnall Primary aims to provide all pupils with exposure to various sporting codes and associated skills, thereby creating suitable awareness and responsibility for a healthy lifestyle.

The goal is to teach healthy attitudes towards: fair play; honesty; reliability and respect. Sport is compulsory and all pupils are expected to participate.

Darnall is fortunate to have dedicated and enthusiastic staff who have the interests of every individual at heart.

They are aware of current trends in education, sensitive to individual learning needs and styles, and are committed to developing pupils holistically.

Facilities include air-conditioned classrooms, each with white boards and e-beams with projectors for interactive learning, as well as a well-stocked library and a computer centre with an interactive Smartboard.

Pupils are encouraged to be responsible and accountable for their actions, while developing a healthy work ethic.

Small classes ensure that individual strengths are recognised, while identifying and remediating learning difficulties.

The ultimate goal is to produce positive, confident individuals not only able to contribute meaningfully to society, but also face the future with confidence, courage and integrity.

Meet the principal:

Darnall Primary School principal – Eugene Nel

Eugene Nel has been principal of Darnall Primary School for 16 years, which is more than double the service time of any previous headmasters in the school’s 108 years of existence.

The school celebrated its centenary in 2016, and the school’s continuous quality results can be credited to the instilled values of good manners, honesty, discipline and perseverance, just like the principal himself.

In his spare time Nel likes to fly his drone and explore places off-the-beaten-track.

He also loves hiking, camping and birdwatching. Khalagadi Transfrontier Park is currently on top of his bucket list.
