Eden Village Prep netballers rise to the occasion

The Salt Rock prep school claimed an impressive 1st team win against tough opposition from Tongaat.

Eden Village Preparatory School earned an impressive victory over Maidstone Primary School last Thursday (May 15).

The Salt Rock school’s U13A team claimed a 10-3 win against their Tongaat opponents. However, the North Coast schools shared the spoils after their three age-group netball fixtures.

Eden Village played Maidstone in three fixtures in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Maidstone’s U11A team beat Eden Village 6-1 in the afternoon’s opening match before the U12 game featured two evenly matched sides playing an entertaining, end-to-end match.

Eden Village displayed some superb skills on their home court.

All the kids – cheered on by a large crowd of parents and fellow pupils – had a blast competing in a friendly, sporty environment, which is what school sport is about.

The final match pitted the two 1st teams against each other. The speed of play and skills on show was impressive as both teams looked to attack. In the end, Eden Village was too strong, winning by seven goals against spirited opponents.

The Salt Rock prep school were accurate with their shooting but could have scored more.

Founded in 2019, the school wants to develop their sports programme. Despite limited sports facilities and only 250 children, Eden Village is flourishing. School principal, Jacky Wolverson, believes that sport plays an essential role in students’ holistic development.

Both teams put on an exciting exhibition of junior schools’ netball.

Wolverson was proud of her girls’ performance against a traditionally strong Maidstone.

“These were a fantastic set of games for the girls, and the day was a great success. Our first team had a brilliant victory against strong opposition,” she said.

Eden Village talk tactics at halftime.

“However, I thought both schools were evenly matched over the three fixtures and the results really don’t matter. The more kids play sports, the better.”
