Curro netballers claim Fast5 gold in Vryheid

The successful team added some more silverware to an already bursting cabinet.

Curro Salt Rock’s successful netball first team added another trophy to their cabinet in Vryheid last weekend.

They did so at a combined Hoërskool Vryheid tournament, which also hosted Curro’s 7s rugby team alongside the netballers.

Curro won seven of their eight games, beating all-comers to add another trophy to the cabinet. Matches were two halves of seven minutes each in an eight-team league, with the top four teams qualifying for the playoffs.

Curro finished second on the log after registering their only defeat against Hoërskool Piet Retief in the group stage. However, a stunning semi-final display against Hoërskool Pionier saw the Salt Rock school advance to the final where they once again met Piet Retief.

The girls would not be denied during the second meeting, winning a close-fought encounter by two points to take the title.

Hoërskool Vryheid Rugby 7s Tournament

Curro Salt Rock sent both an U15 and U17 team to the 7s rugby competition on Friday and Saturday (August 8 and 9).

The U17 team had an impressive tournament, winning three of their four matches on the way to a semi-final defeat against Volksrust High School.

The U15’s endured a difficult draw but will take positive lessons from competing against strong opposition.
