Strong sports results for Ashton teams

There were trophies and medals for the school's cyclists and hockey and soccer teams.

Ashton International College Ballito’s high school stars registered excellent results across a number of sporting codes last weeks.

The girls’ U14A hockey team delivered a particular highlight as they went undefeated to win the Girls Rising Champions Cup in Cape Town.

It is the first time Ashton’s girls U14 hockey team has been ranked in the top 25 in the SA Schools Hockey Rankings.

The team won six and drew one of their seven matches to emerge as worthy champions of one of the highest-rated schools hockey tournaments in the country.

Elsewhere, the boys’ U15A soccer team won three out of five matches at the recent Friendship Cup, beating Durban North College 2-0 to claim the bronze medal. They also defeated Crawford La Lucia 4-2 in a one-off fixture to cap an excellent week of results.

It was a successful week for Ashton’s U15A boys’ soccer team.

The boys’ 1st soccer team had a more difficult day out against Northwood, losing 4-0 in their Cowie Cup encounter.

The boys’ indoor hockey teams had an exceptional week of results against some of the best provincial boys’ schools.

On the indoor hockey pitch, the boy’s 1st team produced two superb performance against Glenwood High School (2-2) and Kearsney College (3-3).

In a topsy-turvy game against Kearsney, Ashton went a goal down before scoring twice to control the game. But Kearsney rallied to lead 3-2 in the second half before a late equaliser saw the teams share the spoils.

Joshua Paul (centre) made it two wins on the bounce at Maritzburg College.

Ashton’s cyclists continue to dominate their respective divisions in the KZN CycleLab School Series.

Joshua Paul (17-18 boys) and Sophia Lombaard (U14 girls) retained their yellow jerseys after winning the second stage of the competition in Pietermaritzburg on the weekend.

Sophia Lombaard (centre) continues her dominance in her division, claiming another yellow jersey.

Attention now turns to the upcoming event at Umhlali Prep, the third in the racing series, on August 24.

On the netball court, the girls’ U16A team finished 22nd in the SA Secondary Schools Netball Championship 2025. They won two matches, defeating Persevere College and Upington High School.

All but one of Ashton’s defeats were by four points or fewer. Read on below for a full list of results.
