Hillcrest teen takes top honours in SPAR Superstars
Primarily a swimmer, Bradley Leppan has had an incredible year.
Hillcrest High School’s Bradley Leppan has been crowned the 2025 SPAR Superstar grand prize winner, receiving a R7 000 SPAR voucher in recognition of his outstanding sporting achievements.
From a young age, Bradley showed unwavering commitment to training, never missing a day of school or practice, according to his proud parents, Megan and Dave Leppan.
“I’d ask him if he was sure he wanted to swim today, hoping for a break, but he always insisted,” joked Megan, a teacher at the school. Dave, a station commander at Gillitts Fire Station, echoed her sentiment.
Bradley’s stellar year included top-10 finishes at the SA Junior Nationals and SA Open Water Championships, where he shaved minutes off his personal best times. He also qualified for the SA Short Course and competed in the Capital K at Midmar.

In multi-sport events, he excelled at the KZN Triathle and Biathle Championships, securing spots at the World Championships in Mossel Bay. He also placed first in this year’s Tinman Tri Series events.
Deputy principal Sibongiseni Ndebele praised Bradley and his coach, Brent White, and thanked SPAR and the Highway Mail for supporting youth talent.
Nicole Bérichon of Caxton Durban and SPAR’s Nozipho Mkhize applauded the long-standing partnership that has empowered local youth through the SPAR Superstars competition.
“Bradley’s discipline is inspiring,” said Mkhize, encouraging more schools to enter for 2026.
