Protec Tongaat matrics excel with 100% bachelor’s pass
Top achievers Nomvelo Michelle Ndlovu and Anele Lydia Vilakazi grabbed five distinctions each.
Protec Tongaat has reached an impressive academic milestone, achieving a 100% matric pass rate this year, with every pupil qualifying for university admission.
Assistant manager Anna-Maria Mkhize said she was proud of the accomplishment.
“This overall success is a testament to the dedication of our tutors and the resilience of our pupils. We extend our sincerest gratitude and congratulations to the entire class,” said Mkhize.
While the perfect pass rate is a cause for celebration, Mkhize noted that there is still room for improvement.

“This year, we did not see any pupils achieve distinctions across all subjects. Additionally, the number of distinctions in mathematics and physical science declined, largely due to reduced contact time, as pupils prioritised compulsory catch-up sessions at their respective schools,” she said.
Despite this, pupils excelled in key subjects, earning several distinctions: Eight in English, three in mathematics and one in physical science.
Standout performers included Nomvelo Michelle Ndlovu and Anele Lydia Vilakazi, who each achieved five distinctions, while Dashil Brijnath, Siyamthanda Vusumuzi Mbanda, Owami Mbewa, Nokubonga Mnyandu and Noxolo Msibi each secured four distinctions.

Protec Tongaat’s results outperformed both the provincial and national averages. The centre’s 100% pass rate compares favourably with the national pass rate of 88% and the KwaZulu-Natal average of 90.6%.
Mkhize also extended thanks to the Courier. “We are deeply grateful to the Courier and it’s Orphan Fund for investing in our pupils’ education and inspiring hope for a brighter future.”
