Young North Coast swimmers impress at Curro gala

Local schools claimed the top 3 podium positions.

Local schools dominated a high-energy inter-schools swimming gala at Curro Salt Rock last Thursday, sweeping all three podium positions across the four Olympic strokes.

Four schools from Durban North and Ballito travelled to Curro for the intermediate boys’ and girls’ U10-U13 event, where the atmosphere inside the swimming arena was electric. With the stands filled to capacity, supporters lined the walkways as parents and teammates roared for their swimmers.\

Curro finished second in the standings.

Umhlali Preparatory School B emerged as convincing winners with 258 points, finishing ahead of hosts Curro Salt Rock, who claimed a well-earned second place with 185 points. Reddam House Ballito secured third place with 177 points, followed by Glenashley Preparatory School on 138 and Atholton Primary School in fifth with 123 points.

Curro’s Head of Swimming, Nicola Keyser, said she was proud of the team’s performance and the spirit of the event.

“The atmosphere was electric, the races were thrilling and we were delighted with the wonderful turnout and support from our parents,” said Keyser.
