Second consecutive title for Curro Salt Rock netball team at Gelofte Night Series

The team completed their unbeaten streak in front of a partisan home crowd.

Curro Salt Rock secured back-to-back Gelofte Night Series titles with a 25-20 win over hosts Gelofte Skool in Pinetown on Friday night.

Playing in front of a vocal home crowd, Curro delivered a composed performance to retain the trophy they first won in 2025. The North Coast side entered the final unbeaten after another consistent run through the pool stages.

Curro took early control of the final and built an eight-goal lead heading into the last quarter before closing out a five-point victory.

“It was an outstanding match of high-quality, competitive netball,” said head coach Chené Gissing.

Gissing said the result was particularly significant given the team’s inexperience.

Back-to-back champions: Curro team manager and assistant coach Marilize van As, captain Zuleika de Lange, player of the tournament and vice-captain, Megan du Plessis and head coach Chené Gissing.

“This is a new group, but their unity and commitment were evident throughout. I’m incredibly proud of them.”

Despite the hostile atmosphere, with drums and chants echoing through the venue, Curro remained composed.

“We anticipated the environment and used it as motivation,” Gissing added.

Captain Zuleika de Lange led from the front, guiding the team through key moments.

“What we’ve achieved this season makes us incredibly proud,” she said.

Vice-captain Megan du Plessis capped a standout tournament by earning Player of the Final, her fourth consecutive Player of the Match award.

“Getting Player of the Match in the final is special, especially in such a tough game,” she said.
