Returning Ballito Sports Festival enjoys strong competition from local schools

Curro were the top-performing school over the three-day festival.

Curro Salt Rock excelled at the 2026 Ballito Sports Festival, claiming medals across all four junior football and netball tournaments.

The festival, held from April 17 to 19, was jointly hosted by Curro Salt Rock and Reddam House Ballito, in partnership with Eden Village Preparatory School. Fourteen schools from KZN, Gauteng, the Western Cape and Zimbabwe competed in the U11 and U13 age groups.

Curro hosted the U11 football and U13 netball events, while Reddam oversaw the U13 football and U11 netball fixtures. The festival once again highlighted the strength of school sport on the North Coast.

Curro delivered standout performances in football, reaching both finals. In the U11 decider, they beat co-hosts Reddam Ballito 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw. They repeated the feat in the U13 final, edging Reddam Bedfordview 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

Netball success followed with podium finishes in both divisions. In the U11 league, Ashton International College Ballito claimed gold with 30 points, while Curro took silver with 25, edging Reddam Ballito on goal difference.

In the U13 division, Reddam Bedfordview won the title, while Curro secured bronze with a 20-11 win over Umhlali Prep.

Curro head of primary sport Phelelani Mtembu praised the event’s impact.

“We are incredibly proud of what this weekend represents,” he said.

“The festival highlights the promising future of school sport on the North Coast.”

Reddam Ballito head of sport Andrew Thomas agreed, describing the event as “bigger and better than last year” and a resounding success.
