Ballito karate star wins two medals at Angola championship

Ruhan Lekha has enjoyed a standout year.

Ballito karate star Ruhan Lekha (13) recently earned two medals on the international stage at the 23rd UFAK Region South Karate Championship in Angola.

The Ashton International College Ballito Grade 8 pupil returned as a member of the South African team with a silver medal in boys’ Kumite (U14 under 50kg) and a bronze medal in individual Kata. His latest achievement adds to an impressive 2026 season, which includes previous national representation at a tournament in the United Arab Emirates.

At the Karate South Africa National Tournament in March, he earned silver medals in Team Kata and Individual Kata, as well as a bronze medal in Kumite. The following month, he claimed double gold in Kata and Kumite at the SKISA International Kanazawa Cup before receiving a Protea Trophy at the SKISA Awards Dinner.
