I haven’t been to John Dory’s for a while and the first thing I noticed was their new look – definitely a change for the better. The lines are cleaner and there is less clutter – a job well done. The staff were friendly and attentive which always makes for a pleasant dining experience. I have always ordered sushi at John Dory’s, as it has always been constant and of a good standard. I had been told about the Prawn Avalanche which is a Californian roll filled with either tuna or prawn, topped with a half tempura rolled prawn and spicy condensed milk/mayo sauce. Now condensed milk and sushi is a combination that I found hard to believe, but it really works, they are addictive! The texture of the rice, tuna and crispy tempura plays very well with the sweet flavour of the tangy sauce. As well as the sushi we had calamari which was good but not memorable. The sirloin steak was great with enough sauce to enjoy with every bite. The one thing that stood out for me as a new father, was the kiddies play area. It really is phenomenal which elevates this into a family restaurant of note. The prices are very reasonable with a selection of everyone’s favorites from seafood platters and combos to steaks and poultry. Well worth a visit.
