I was approached by a kind, elderly couple, Frank and Ariette Drennan, to sponsor some food for all the cats and kittens at their old age home in Stanger.
There are about 20 cats roaming around, some very pregnant. These dear old people are trying to feed and care for these cats on their measly monthly pension with such love and dedication. I  approached the Ballito SPCA to do a sterilization drive, with no luck whatsoever! I was told they do NOT do this unless the pensioners collect the traps and trap the cats themselves, then bring them in to the SPCA.
So, last week, on behalf of Feline Feral Fund, I went and trapped and sterilized nine cats and rescued two beautiful ginger kittens of eight weeks old, looking to be adopted to a happy fur-ever home. Please can the community look at sponsoring some food for these dear elders who so willingly share the little they have to keep a happy colony of cats? If only some of our wealthy estates would take a leaf from this same book, our world would be such a better place.
I end with two fitting quotes by Mahatma Gandhi “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way it’s animals are treated” and “Where there is love, there is life”.
