The bad behavior of Speaker Thulani Khuluse must receive the condemnation it deserves (Disabled parking dispute turns ugly, Courier, May 8). In the past few years, we have experienced all forms of arrogance by those in power, such as the blue light brigade of politicians whose cars speed because they are always “late for engagements”.
Some time ago, I took my cousin’s family for breakfast in Lifestyle centre. Always on Sundays the restaurants are packed. Here comes a mayor surrounded by bodyguards. He met with someone, and his four bodyguards occupied another table but did not even order tea.
When the manager of the restaurant pleaded with the bodyguards to vacate the table for a patron who was with her children, the response of the bodyguards was shocking. They said the mayor was having a meeting and for security reason they could not vacate the table. The manager had to put her foot down that she could not allow those who were not eating to hog tables. What surprised me was that the mayor did not bother to say to his bodyguards, “stand there, nobody will come and shoot me”.
Linda Harris was correct to take pictures of the car. It will not cost even five cents for Khuluse to apologise, not only to Linda Harris but to all people with disabilities. Shame, shame and more shame, Mr Dishonourable Speaker.
