I suggest that a few of the incompetents within local government wake up and look around the world at other areas that have both water and electricity problems or visit the Water World website.

If anyone has been to Dubai you will see that it’s in a desert with no fresh water. They produce some 470 million gallons of drinkable water a day from their desalination plant and some 9 646 megawatts of electricity all from a piece of desert and the sea.

Off the coast of Israel in the Menorah project, they produce fresh water from the humidity. Now here I am, like many of you Ballito people, sitting looking at the sea and complaining about the humidity. It is also very obvious that due to climate changes the chances of future droughts are very high, while the area is expanding at an alarming rate.

If both the Arabs and the Israelis have come up with solutions to these problems, that are far worse than ours, then maybe, just maybe, we should take note and take action now rather than take the Eskom route and do absolutely nothing until the wheels fall off! I am sure there will be a few “egg heads” out there will poo poo these ideas but then they must come up with an urgent long term plan.

Come on guys at least there will be a few “fact finding” trips in it for you.
