The pipeline from the Tongaat River was supposed to help raise the water level of this dam, until some bright spark, not knowing the conditions of the lands in this area, decided in his wisdom to shorten the line by 1.5 kilometres.

The land is happy because it is being thoroughly watered, but, as you reported, the dam is drier! How can people from Umgeni Water Board feel good about this gross loss of water? How can they “save” on 1.5 kilometres of pipeline, when the water was to run down an old river bed? Didn’t they survey that river bed before they made the decision to shorten the pipeline? Or don’t they care? Someone must pay for their error and it seems that it’s the public’s responsibility – again!

I have another “gripe”. Why is there no recycling plant here? I’ve been to the municipal dump site and was horrified by the smell and the mountain of recyclable material. Surely this “mess” could be sorted out and provide some jobs?
