Seaward Estate resident Linda Mbonambi sent in this photo of a man pressure-washing a roof, and asks if this if legal in the current state of water restrictions.
Estate manager Joe Reeler comments:
The company we used brought in their own supplies of grey water on a daily basis, which they draw from Siza. We do not allow the use of hose pipes unless connected to storage tanks, which either capture water (not that much has been there to catch of late) or are filled with grey water.
Any construction requires water storage tanks which are filled with grey water. Any swimming pool top ups have to be by grey water only which we monitor closely.
We encourage residents to report transgressions and these are investigated and some have been handed over to Siza. We have water restriction posters displayed at various points through the Estate and use our bulk SMS and email systems to repeat any warnings which Siza sends us.
We are currently investigating the purchase of storage tanks which will be filled with grey water for residents to use for car cleaning or gardens, these will be centrally located and residents would require to collect. We are extremely water conscious and strictly adhere to Siza’s requirements – every drop of water wasted affects everyone in the broader community.
Note the large roofs in the background, some of which are clean. These are the new classrooms erected at Ashton, hence the differences in colour.
