Mention of the desalination plant brings back memories, when in the beginning of 2000 someone said: “Water shortage – what water shortage? Water everywhere!”

Yes, halloooo but not a drop to drink!!

I remember the first discussions about a desalination plant, which, after more than 10 years one would certainly think would have been completed by now and could have been a “plan B” for the drought-related water shortage. But sadly, the project was never mentioned again.

Instead of lowering tariffs the consumers are punished for the lack of service with higher tariffs and even fines! As if increasing the tariff is going to fix the problem. If the businesses in this country operated the same way as Eskom and the municipalities do, they would all go bankrupt.

Sadly, all that is left to say is “Cry (loudly) the beloved country”.
