The current debacle on the new visa regulations would seem to have not been thought through as regards the cost to the country in job loses etc. and one can only wonder, given the current level of corruption within government, who may be gaining around the back door in its implementation?

On the other hand, if the figures are correct and we are losing a few billion a year due to the new visa requirement, would it not make much more sense to return to our normal tourist document system (as per the rest of the world) and from the increase in tourist revenue gained create a dedicated and skilled police task force to deal solely with child trafficking.

As over 90 percent of child trafficking takes place at cross border walk-ins and not at airports or from our major tourist countries, it makes much more sense to man these with specialised trafficking police and put the effort in where it would get the best results.

The implementation of visas will not assist in the apprehension and prosecution of trafficker kingpins and will possibly only create an opportunity for document forgers and more border jumpers whereas a dedicated police trafficking investigation task force will.
