In response to Mr Syed’s letter (“Don’t we worship the same God?” Courier, August 14) I appreciate the thought that went into your letter and your search for the truth, Mr Syed.

You struggle with the concept of a Trinity and accuse Christians of worshipping three Gods. But no; consider the concept of water. It comes in three forms – solid, liquid and vapour – but it is still water. An egg has a shell, white and a yolk but it is still one egg. Each functions in a different way but part of the whole. Even so Jesus in the flesh, the Holy Spirit as a wind – unseen but felt – and the Father heart of God holding it all together.

Jesus did allow people to worship Him. See-Mark 14:26, John 4:25 and 26, John 9:35-38, Matth.16:16 and 17.

Christians worship a very different God from the Muslims. Unlike the God of the Muslims, the God of the Christians does not require works or deeds to make a person clean and acceptable to Him. No rituals, no acts, no good deeds can win a person a place in the Garden of Bliss.

He only asks that a person accepts his sinful condition before a holy God and receives the payment made by Jesus on the cross on his behalf. This is sufficient to make that person acceptable to God and give him an eternal place in heaven.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not your own doing, it is a gift of God – not because of works lest any man should boast”. Eph 2:8-9.

Grace all grace for a Christian – no striving. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16.
