I have had occasion to visit the Salt Rock motor vehicle licence office recently in order to renew my vehicle licence. The Indian lady behind the counter is not somebody who you want to cross swords with as she can make your life hell if she wants to.

We generally get our renewal forms in the post, in time to take it to the offices to get your new licence. This year mine was late in the post and when I took it to her she rudely said there was a fine to be paid of about 9%.

The excuse used, which she curtly said I could check if I wanted, was that it is our duty to make sure our licence is up to date. I can understand this but surely she could just be more pleasant in the way she speaks to us? Some sympathy costs her nothing and would endear her to the community.

If she has a chip on her shoulder about the residents in our area please move her to a more suitable area. I was only one day late in terms of the 21 days given to renew.

What a lovely way to increase your turnover by 10%. Send out reminders late and penalize the unsuspecting motorists. I don’t know about you but I don’t rate waiting for my vehicle licence renewal too highly – as if we have not got enough to contend with these days.

As I left I heard her giving the sweet old granny in the queue behind me her razor tongue as well.
