The new highway has been in use for some time now and it is time to review the use of it and see if there are any improvements to be made before the holiday season? Comments:

1) Past the BP garage, Ballito Drive there are three lanes.

(a) The left lane at the robot where drivers turn off to the M4 (Coast Road). The left lane to M4 gets blocked when there are three or four vehicles going straight along Ballito Drive.

(b) The right lane at the robot is only for right turns. However, this lane is always empty because drivers turn to go to Ballito Junction/Checkers at the BP circle and not past the taxi rank.

Solution: Make the third lane a straight through which will relieve the pressure on the left lane to M4. What about yellow zebra lines (no stopping) of left lane to M4?

2) Where the M4 joins the main road, there is no green robot arrow signalling a right turn ahead for the rest of the traffic. At peak times this often results in only one or two cars being able to turn right, which leads to a build-up of drivers who have to wait for the next light change.

3) The robots are not synchronized for the through traffic on the highway to give preference to the cross traffic. Please can these be checked and see what improvements, if any, can be made before the holiday season?

While appreciating that the robots adjacent to Lifestyle were installed by KDM and the others by Department of Transport (DOT), we would appreciate it if the KDM will work with DOT to see what improvements could be made to our super highway.

Now that we have the “Best of Best” highway, let‘s make sure it gives the same service.
