Help stop illegal trade in wildlife

It is with alarm that I have heard of animal-lovers paying out large sums of money to rescue baby wildlife from roadside “sellers”.
The main culprits selling wildlife seem to be makhowe gatherers or hunters who roam the countryside collecting mushrooms or snaring wildlife for meat. These animals are toted around in sacks or plastic packets, with no nourishment or care. Due to the drought the pickings are lean, so it is a great temptation to resort to selling animals for a greater price.
I am pleased to say that we managed to secure five side-striped jackal pups last weekend without having to part with any money, but with lots of persuasion from the legal angle, as well as having to try and explain that the unweaned pups would dehydrate and starve and should actually have been left alone by the hunter, as their parents would probably have returned to them.
I would like to convey my thanks to Alpha Security for coming to our rescue and helping in removing the last two pups (which were near death) from this unscrupulous character. Big thanks too to Crow for their help and advice. They now have the pups safely in their care and have a big task ahead in raising them, and eventually releasing them back into the wild.
To all the kind-hearted and compassionate folk out there, please be circumspect when dealing with a situation like this and please realise that any trade in wildlife is illegal! Your money would be better spent in donating to Crow who rehabilitate abandoned and orphaned wildlife. Account details as follows: Crow; FNB; Branch: Durban Main code 221426; Account Number: 50770230859.
To the hunters and gatherers out there, please respect our wildlife and the environment!
